![]() ![]() It’s the perfect way to shake up late-game complacency, or make a bloody game even more chaotic. Each faction secretly chooses whether to oppose the Voidbringers, or join them, creating a massive all-out war. Invasions features a neat twist, however. Stellaris used a similar fallen empire concept as a late game challenge, and it’s just as effective here. A mysterious new NPC faction known as the Voidbringers will invade the planet via portals, resurrecting previously slain foes for their army. “Invasions” doesn’t refer to the coming of the Shakarn, however, but a new late-game event. These unique features make the Shakarn a fun new addition to an already diverse roster. The Shakarn’s first specialist unit, the Infiltrator, can’t equip any mods, but features one of the neatest abilities in the game: the ability to holo-shift into any Tier 1 and 2 non-mechanical unit, gaining all their abilities. The new race utilizes sonic-based weaponry (meaning they use sound attacks, not trademarked blue hedgehogs), which combined with the laser tech tree grants a variety of powerful mods for their units, to make up for their physical weaknesses. The space lizards are also adept at manipulating their own people through the use of Propaganda Towers (Unique Shakarn building) and a Doctrine that increase production at the cost of energy. The Shakarn specialize in covert operations, including the ability to steal map knowledge, and even another faction’s unique racial technology and units. The Shakarn are a race of space-faring lizard-folk who specialize in conquest through deception and manipulation, not unlike the classic sci-fi series “V.” Invasions adds the seventh playable faction, the Shakarn. Invasions also adds a new NPC faction, new world events, and a new late-game challenge in the form of the titular invasions. The Shakarn come equipped with fun new stealth abilities along with a mini-campaign that showcases their skills as expert manipulators. Don’t get too envious- those who get used to being behind the sword may soon find themselves in front of it.Invasions is the second DLC for last year’s excellent sci-fi strategy game Age of Wonders: Planetfall, and the first to add a playable new faction. One player starts with a titanic empire, and all others unite to crumble their dominion to dust. In this team juggernaut-style game mode, form an alliance to topple a formidable kingpin. ![]() The humans thought they had conquered everything, but the vast galaxy of Planetfall continues to grow. Venture into new territory as the Shakarn begin their invasion of the Egalitarian League of Planets with two new campaign maps. Each will require adaptive playstyles to truly test a player's mastery of Planetfall. World Eventsīattles can now be spontaneously shaken up by over 20 different environmental catastrophes covering everything from pirate uprisings to superstorms to solar flares. Destroy their beacons and extinguish their colossal armies, or submit and become enthralled yourself to conquer the world in the name of the void. Voidbringer Invasionsįace the ultimate late-game challenge as the enigmatic Voidbringers use trans-dimensional warfare to rain down legions of enthralled soldiers across your empire. Under the rule of the mysterious Deer, this rogue militia has fled their home planet to colonize new worlds, but you won’t catch them in the headlights! They are formidable as friends or foes. This NPC race of sophisticated warriors has accelerated evolution by fusing their DNA with that of animals. These ruthless lizardmen can deploy units from the Zardas caste with holographic disguises to mimic and confuse foes or deploy the brutal Domok to crush them outright. Planetfall's newest playable faction gives new meaning to cold-blooded. ![]()
